blackbird's two minute movie reviews: St. Vincent

St. Vincent is kind of like About A Boy but grittier.

A young boy whose parents have just divorced finds an unlikely friend and mentor in the misanthropic, bawdy, hedonistic war veteran who lives next door.

The cast is amazing: Bill Murray is older and drunker and meaner than we've ever seen him and yet he still has that poignant and quiet gentleness we all know and love.

It's delightful seeing Melissa McCarthy not doing fart jokes and prat falls. She's wonderful as Oliver's mom...really wonderful.

Naomi Watts? Plays the hooker with the heart of gold. I don't know about you, but this is a small movie and I was surprised.

Everything about St. Vincent surprised me - sort of. You can see where the movie is going from the start but there are enough little twists to keep the plot going.

Am I being lazy by posting the trailer? Yes.
Should you see the movie? Yes.
