as it is devoid of explosions, I'm out of luck

The guys who work in K's department are crazy for movies.
A couple of them have inside connections and are able to get copies of movies before they are out on dvd. But even if they don't have 'advanced screening' copies, K often gets small stacks of dvds the day they are released.
A couple of times a week he will bring home his selections from what's being passed around in the office.
Every once in a while there will be something we can watch together, but, for the most part, they tend to be movies I'm not interested in.
And I had thought that that was because there aren't a lot of movies being released that I AM actually interested in seeing, but that turns out to not be the case.
And I learned this when I requested a copy of The Devil Wears Prada.

Oh, I don't think we'll be getting that one...
he said with some authority.
But, I thought your department gets all new releases...I wondered out loud.
Yeah, I don't think the guys will request that one...

and then it dawned on me -
no violence
no aliens
no big guns
no sex

NO DVD.

Same reason why I got my own Netflix subscription. There's only so many times I can sit through Rush Hour 3 with husband and son reciting all the dialogue.

Men. Sheesh.

Aren't there any womenfolk in the big Tuvalu film industry then?

A smart and bright lady like you, still had to figure that out?
Strange.
Yes, it is simple as that. And that is why we all have 2 TVs, DVD players, separate cables (yes!)...
keeping peace at home ain't easy...

I suffer the same fate. The spouse has hijacked the NetFlix list, and movies show up that I have no interest in seeing.

Men's idea of entertainment? No touchy, feely stuff. Their entertainment food groups are the ones you listed. Oh, you left off spies.

Hey! It's the guys in the department. I like "Love Actually" and "Serendipity" (probably cause we ate there). It's them. Really. Not me.

Of course I did stay up 'til 12:30 AM watching "Seven Samurai" last night.
