the music biz

Middle and Oldest put together a CD of Oldest's music. 15 songs that Oldest wrote plus one cover. They both play guitar and Middle plays drums. They mixed it on a 4 track or 8 track mixer (I don't know a lot about this stuff) that we had and then Middle played with it a little on the computer. Then he burned a bunch of discs of it.
He and his friends have been selling them.
They have sold a lot of them.
They walk up to the main drag, with homemade flyers and cd's. They each have an iPod with a song or two from the album on it. They post the flyers and stand near them. When people stop and read the flyers they offer to give them a listen, and then, if people like what they hear, sell them the full cd. For four dollars.
The album is called Sounds From The Basement (they did it all in the basement) and bits of it are being shared on people's playlists on the internet. One kid burnt his own copy -- pirated the disc, Middle got wind of it and called him -
Do you know what my Older brother will do if I tell him you pirated his cd?
There'll be hell to pay...

Ten minutes later the doorbell rang. The kid ponied up the $4.
The confidence and balls that it took to put this together and pull it off as they have amazes me.
I am amazed and proud.

I can only hope that I raise my children to be this independent. It says so much about you and their dad. I think you need to put an ad up for them, though, so we can buy them, too.
